Christmas is getting closer, and it’s time for classic holiday movies. Maybe you always watch Elf this time of year, or maybe you prefer the likes of The Holiday or Love Actually. But one movie that became a classic the second it was released was 2000’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, and the adorable Taylor Momsen.
Cindy Lou Became a Rock Star
Momsen, who played Cindy Lou Who, has grown up a lot since the film. In fact, she’s gone from a cute little girl singing “Christmas, Why Can’t I Find You?” to a rockstar! She now fronts a band called The Pretty Reckless.
Momsen was only seven years old at the time, and later appeared in the teen drama series Gossip Girl, which she was on until 2012. After that, she decided to focus on music by fronting the rock band The Pretty Reckless. After debuting with 16,000 sales in the US, their latest record Death by Rock and Roll was number one on the Current Rock Albums chart, the Record Label Independent Albums chart, and the Internet Albums chart.
The Grinch Influenced Momsen’s Music Career
Back in 2020, Momsen said that her participation in How the Grinch Stole Christmas influenced not just her acting career but also her music. Momsen also remembers Jim Carrey as being kind and concerned but too methodical. Even at her then very young age, she said to herself that she was watching an artist at work. The rock singer also noted that the film is loved by people because, at its core, the story is very sweet, and heartwarming, and delivers a good message.
Momsen also remembered that she was inspired to see the famous composer, James Horner, working in the studio. She’ll never forget how she walked into the beautiful studio and sang “Christmas, Why Can’t I Find You?” At that moment she decided she loved being in a recording studio and that she wanted to make music for the rest of her life.
