Since Rihanna took to the stage for the Super Bowl Halftime show on February 12th, fans have been speculating about what the singer might be working on for her ninth album. She did speak at the press conference before her live performance and said she was open to exploring, discovering, and creating different, new things.
Rihanna Is Working on an Album
Rihanna further clarified in her interview that a different perspective on music might feel off or weird to her fans, but she wanted to play and have fun with music. This was a strong hint that she was actually working on a new album. Rihanna has not made new music since 2016, and an album is already becoming highly anticipated. So, now fans are wondering when would her next album come out.
It is certain that the Barbadian singer has been busy with her Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin brands and the birth of her first child. Considering that she is now pregnant, it is not possible to predict the exact date for the release of the album. Still, the fans have already nicknamed it #R9 and expect it to be exceptional.
Fans Dubbed the New Album #R9
Rihanna teased her next album way back in 2018 during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Then, she told the audience that they would just have to wait and see. Fifteen months later, she was asked for an update and commented that people would still have to wait. Despite all that, some things are known about the singer’s new music. Apparently, #R9 will be inspired by her reggae and dancehall roots, and Pharrell Williams and The Dream are producing it.
One thing Rihanna has said about her new album is that even though she is now a mother, that wouldn’t impact her sound. In the same interview, she also remarked how her fans would not be happy if they waited this long to get a lullaby.
